Personal Life

Football in the state of Texas is like religion. The Friday Night Lights is what every football player looks forward to in Texas. Clint Dempsey was born in Nacogdoches, Texas. When Clint Dempsey was growing up, he wanted to be a football player but a different kind. Dempsey was a phenomenal soccer player as people would call the sport over here in America. See over here the sport “soccer” does not get as much respect that sports like football, baseball, and basketball receive. Soccer is even below hockey in my opinion. There is not a lot to cheer about in America when it comes to soccer just due to the fact that we are not one of the better nations in the sport and the fact that we don’t produce the quality players that countries like England, Spain, Netherlands, and France. Who would have thought that one of the best American players would come out of Texas and be starting for one of the premier clubs over in England? I mean the odds have to get smaller and smaller just for the fact that you were born in Texas. Texas is where football and baseball are the premier sports and nothing else really matters when it comes to those sports. This didn’t stop Dempsey from pursuing his dream of playing soccer over England. Dempsey with his exceptional skill as a soccer player joined one of the top youth teams in Texas. His team was over in Dallas, Texas. Now Dallas and Nacogdoches are not very close to each other. Dempsey’s parents had to drive him and his brother out to Dallas just for practice a couple times a week. His soccer career had to stall for a little while due to some financial reasons. After a couple months, Dempsey was again able to pursue his career in soccer. Dempsey kept getting better and better as the years went by. In high school when he was asked what he wanted to do in his life? He answered with “I want to play professional soccer in England.” Dempsey kept his soccer dream alive by going to Furman University and playing as a midfielder.  Clint was an all-around good player. Everything about his game was quick and precise. People started to recognize that we might have a young great American player in the making. His performance at Furman University led to him signing with the New England Revolution. A club team in the MLS, Major League Soccer, which is the American Soccer League. He would not be here long though…

Tragedy is always a hard thing to cope with whether it happens close to you or you hear about a tragedy on the news. People can handle tragedy all different types of ways.  Some can thrive off a tragedy and it makes them better at what they do and some people can’t handle the pain and just roll over and just degrade at their skill. The Dempsey Family was no perfect family. They had their ups and downs like every other family. Clint Dempsey was born into the Dempsey family in 1983. At a young age, Clint was a phenomenal soccer player. His sister Jennifer Dempsey was an exceptional tennis player and was one of the best youth tennis players in the country. The Dempsey Family was not well off as other families and could only support one of their children’s athletic dreams. Since Jennifer was older, they decided to chase her dream of becoming one of the best tennis players and letting Clint’s dream of becoming a professional soccer player go. This had to be one of the toughest decisions for parents to ever make. To not be able to follow all your children dreams is hard for parent. Clint actually handled this situation very well. Clint had to put his dream of becoming a great soccer player on halt for a while. His parents pursued Jennifer’s tennis dream. This dream would not last too long unfortunately. Before you could know it, Jennifer Dempsey had passed away at the age of 16 because of a brain aneurysm. Losing her was an absolute stun and a huge step back for the family. No one saw it coming and death at such a young age is hard to bear for the parents and even harder for younger siblings in the family. Her death meant the continuation of Clint Dempsey’s soccer career but at the price of his sister. Clint would rather have his sister here and not the have the chance to pursue a career in soccer. Clint visits the grave of his sister many times and delivers flowers. Every goal Clint scores throughout his years in soccer have been dedicated to his sister Jennifer. Sometimes after a goal he will kiss his fingers and then point to the sky honoring the death of sister and dedicating his goals and success to her. Clint Dempsey handled the death of his very well but he would do anything to have her back in his life forever.

Clint Dempsey is one of most talented soccer players in the world. In my opinion, the best player to come out of USA. Dempsey is talented and skillful in every aspect of the game whether it be scoring, passing, defending, or just going hard for every loose ball. Soccer is not the only thing Dempsey is talented at. Clint is an exceptional golf player and loves the sport. He lives in Wimbledon with his wife and his two children and when he is not with them or playing soccer he is on the green playing some golf. Those two sports have nothing in common so it’s a very odd combo. Golf is one of the slowest sports and soccer is one of the fastest sports. I guess Dempsey needs to take a break from all the running and just walk hole to hole. Sports are not everything that consumes the life a Clint Dempsey. Dempsey also has a big interest in Music especially Hip-Hop. Music is other passion besides soccer. Dempsey is a well-known rapper except he doesn’t go by his real name but his rapper name. His rapper name is Deuce. Surprisingly Deuce is not a bad rapper at all. Not to be stereotypical but usually white rappers are not that good at all compared to the rap game but Deuce held his own on the track His track is called “Don’t Tread” which was a big hit among soccer fans because it was a rap about soccer which has never been done before. Dempsey got some Texas rappers XO and Big Hawk to help him make and actually create the song. This rap song was actually made right before the 2006 World Cup and a few advertisements used the song for the World Cup. People were seeing the ads and getting more hype for the 2006 World Cup. The USA definitely got some more support from the fan base after people started to hear his music. I know once I heard the song it was on repeat on my iPod for a while especially during the World Cup. Dempsey or Deuce also featured some his soccer skills during the music video. He also dedicated the song and video to his sister Jennifer Dempsey who lost her life at a young age. In the last scene of the video, Dempsey is taking a flower to her grave and saying a little prayer. Dempsey always has been a family man and will never let soccer or music come between that.
